Reserves are estimated remaining quantities of oil and natural gas that are commercially recoverable from known accumulations. In Canada, we follow the guidelines set out in the Canadian Oil and Gas Evaluation Handbook (COGEH) when preparing our evaluations. Internationally, we use the Petroleum Resources Management System (SPE-PRMS), or the standards outlined by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
For an audit, we give an opinion on the reasonableness of reserves estimates and values. We assess the quality of the evaluation by reviewing the work standards, processes, and qualifications of the evaluators.
Resources are petroleum quantities that originally existed on or within the earth’s crust in naturally occurring accumulations. Our resources evaluations follow the same guidelines as in reserves evaluations.
For an assessment, the resource must be identified and delineated before it can be classified. We identify both in-place and recoverable resources. In-place resources assessment may involve geological, geophysical, geochemical, and well information to determine Total Petroleum-Initially-In-Place (PIIP), Undiscovered PIIP or Discovered PIIP. Recoverable resources assessment will include reviews of drilling and/or enhanced recovery, production equipment and surface facilities.
We assist our clients with their reporting and disclosure requirements, as our staff also have regulatory experience from previous employment with both the British Columbia and Alberta Securities Commissions. We are well-versed in the requirements and standards set out by the Canadian Securities Administrators (CSA) under National Instrument 51-101 Standards for Disclosure for Oil and Gas Activities (NI 51-101), as well as those set out by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
Our evaluations and disclosures follow the regulatory requirements of stock exchanges in Canada, the USA, London, Hong Kong, and other countries.
We apply the methods of volumetrics, production history, analogous wells/fields and reservoir drives, and/or material balance when conducting our evaluations.

We can assist your company to optimize the life of your field from exploration to appraisal and delineation to development. Using geological, geophysical and reservoir engineering methods, we can identify and locate prospects, quantify the volumes of hydrocarbons which might be contained in the potential reservoirs and assess the risk involved in developing your project.
